Default Why did you not purchase a campaign

Not all players own all campaigns.
This thread is to discuss why you did not buy a certain campaign.
This is not a nagging thread! If you did not buy a campaign because of something you don't like, state so, but do not start flaming (take my example below)!

As for myself I only own Prophecies.
The sole reason that I did not buy Factions was after reading its reviews. I am a fan of random PVP, and leeching, which I heard was a major issue in Fort Aspenwood, completey deterred me from the game.
As for NightFall, asides from lack of time to play, the introduction of heros removed most of the multi-player PVE aspect of the game.

I didn't buy Nightfall, because I don't feel I've fully experienced the previous two chapters yet (I started late ). As a purely PvE player, I don't feel that I need all the chapters to keep up. I will be getting NF quite soon though, as I'm now in an active guild and I want to be able to help out anywhere.

If I was in your shoes, I'd get Factions though. Sure, the general feeling is it's the worse of the 3, but the problems with PvP don't detract from a great PvE experience if you're into that side of the game!

Well I have all three campaigns now, but before I just had NF and Prophecies, and not factions because everyone says factions is a campaign mostly for guilds, so I did not buy factions until I became good, and got into a good guild.

Well I got Factions then proph. I bought nf months after it came out because I had gotten bored of gw's. nf helped, but is my least favorite game. Factions is my favorite.

Prophecies only. Quite simply, the 4 + 4 = 6 nonsense won't change that any time soon.

Had Prophecies since beta, quit the game completely right before Factions came out. After NF I decided to give another stab at it but I still refused to buy Factions because I'm not HUGE in to PvE to begin with and when I heard the story line in Factions was really lame, I figured it'd be hard to keep my interest. But I ended up buying the Factions PvP set for the skills and soon afterwards I was forced to get the PvE edition because I wanted the elites on my ranger. I still haven't gone through it though, it really is pretty boring, lol.

Got all three in order of release but only after I had finished the ones I had. As a sort of incentive to finish it. Am playing Factions for the second time and tbh, I love it. Wasn't so sure 1st time as it just wasn't as good as Proph. Ignore the reviews, it's cheap enough now to warrent getting. Try it yourself, you may be surprised.

I have Prophicies and Nightfall. I didn't and doubt I ever will buy Factions.
When I played the preview it seemed pretty good, but after my girlfriend let me play her account to decide whether I wanted it or not I decided no.

I don't like the closed in spaces. I hear it's better later in the game, but honestly, no way am I going through all that with each of my characters, no matter how short it is.
I don't like the running back and forth.
I went out exploring and it took me about an hour to find another town and I couldn't even get in to it. I like exploring.
I didn't know about the PVP thing and not being able to get into certain areas because of Alliance battles until after I had already decided not to get it.

Started playing GW at Faction's release, got Prophecies about a month after and bought NF as soon as it came out. I've been a GW addict since I started playing around 9-10 months ago and felt I couldn't experience the whole game without all of the chapters, which you really can't.

Very well said. Way back in the days of early Ultima and whatever other MMOs were in existence storing characters was an expensive business for the servers. Nowadays, although character files have increased in size dramatically, the technology used to store these charcters has advanced well beyond the needs of any MMO and is thus fairly inexpensive compared what it used to cost. I simply don't get it, but if it helps them to provide a more stable and fun game then I suppose it doesnt really matter.

Of the chapters, I only own prophecies. I bought it right when it came out and played up until Factions demo weekend. At the time I was only into PVE. I did more Farming than Jethro and his hydrogen-powered tractor and I ran people all over southern Shiverpeaks. When Factions weekend rolled around I was disgusted. Not so much by the actually game play, (in fact I liked the new "travel icon" and balthazaars temple--yea that was a while ago) but by the amount of people who left PVE after the expansion pack was released. That was when I last played.

Now I've started back up again and plan on tackling the game on both the PVE and PVP fronts. Thinking back I wish I would have kept playing and bought the expansion packs. Without them now I feel almost left out and clueless especially in the PVP world. Going from one of the people who are supposedly "in the know" to someone asking in the local chat "what's an insignia?" is tough. I plan on purchasing both when I get a new computer.

you said if i didnt buy a chapter due to something i dont like i can say. so here goes: -

*anet destroying ha and lack of trust of what they will do to pvp in future
*anet and their constant quest to remove rare items from the game and not trusting what they will do in future
*anet and their constand nerfing of farming
*anet and their lack of introducing rare items and the belief that anet will never make ultra rare items again
*failure to ban rule breakers and the belief that they wont ever take it seriously

basically the above and the fact that like 99% of the players i grew up (on gw) with and were friends / played with dont play for various reasons many including the above i mentioned. i experienced alot of magic and excitement with the people on my friends list and when barely any of them play any more it kinda sucks.

i also wont give money to a company who have destroyed countless millions worth of gold items/armor etc of mine. they have ruined a rediculous amount of my friends items who have also quit over what anet do.

inscriptions really did it for me along with the 15% ffs and +55hp axe nerf. i wont pay anet when they could nerf more of my items in the future.

That's a lame excuse. If you have enough time to use 12 characters....

I took a long break from Prophecies and only started playing again last week. If I actually finish the game, build up some chars, and find a decent guild, I'll consider buying Factions and Nightfall.

I'm not quite following Herbalizer's arguments here.

I may not be a longtime player, but it would seem that GW does not have any problems with duping and similar, and I haven't heard of any case where GW would remove existing items from the game or similar. After all, there are still unconditional damage bonuses still in the game.

So how exactly is Anet supposed to have destroyed any ultra-rare items or anything?

The rest of his complaints, like farming and similar I can understand (not agree with, though, I favour low price markets where things are generally accessible to all players over having a huge profit when you get a good drop).

I got about the same complaints as herb, except for the fact of destroying item value, heck, you made an investment, turned out to be bad, live with it.

as in 'an excuse why not to own something that you dont need to have'?
its a reason - not an excuse. and a perfectly valid one!

all 3 chapteres here. regret buying nightfall though. i wish i had just saved myself the money and stuck around in factions.

This is exactly how I felt about Factions. The town-ship area really got me down. It felt cramped and I was always getting lost. However, just sticking with it I've managed to work out where I'm going. It doesn't take long to know you way around. Once you get passed that, the game is superb imo. It's a shame the town is like a maze because I bet that put more people off it than anything else. For £15 it's gotta be worth a go.

*shrug* I have purchased all of them, but I only have one character through factions. If I had never purchased it I would see little difference so I'll answer as if I have not. However, I finally have a ranger build I enjoy and it will be the only one that I *want* to go through most of Factions with, but only for an elite.

I hate being forced to PUG (though if I am lucky I can get a hench group). Factions has two missions that require it, one is the first "real" mission - Vizunah Square. All that mission (and Unwaking Waters) does is remind why I hate other inline games with a passion (in fact, I would say I loath PUGS), so much so that I never take any character beyond Vizunah. If I could skip it, or guarantee that I have an all hench team I would have had all of them through it - as is I had one character I desire to have beaten all the chapters and one I want a late game elite so I have no choice. However, the word "grind" is too weak trying to find either a full hench team or an opposing team that can keep their guy alive.

I guess I still would have purchased the game - I like playing the two new classes in the other campaigns. I can also now use unlocked skills on heroes and make some nice team builds without the hassle of sending everyone through the game. So - I'm sorta torn on the whole thing. The game itself - eh, could have done without it. As a long term player I like some of the skills and the two professions.

IMO Nightfall and Prophecies are two of the best games I have played in the last decade. Factions, for the most part, is decent (still above average) - I just hate those two mission enough that I will not play it. Especially true when I have the gems that are Prophecies and Nightfall.

I bought Prophecies last year, and while I somewhat enjoyed it, there were a lot of things I didn't like about it, mainly to do with the other players. I understand that it's an online game, but I dislike playing through the games with other people for numerous reasons. Playing alone with henchmen just became too hard with the later missions, until I just quit playing the game.

I completely skipped over Factions and didn't become re-interested in the series until I heard about Nightfall, it added a lot of things that I had really been wanting in the game, most inparticular the heroes. I played through the entire game with a friend, both of us only using heroes, and I absoloutly loved it. I think we only teamed up with other players for the final two missions. I don't agree with the people who say heroes ruined the "social" side of the game, people like me are never going to play socially, and heroes add something that make the game enjoyable to us, without them, I wouldn't even be playing the game.

After enjoying Nightfall so much, we decided to get Factions, so we've currently been playing through that. I don't think it's quite as bad as some people make out, but I can definetely see why people get so frustrated with it. It seems to require a lot less skill and tactics, the enemies seem to rely a lot more on the mobbing tactic, which just isn't much fun, and almost every mission requires you to keep an NPC alive. I don't mind failing missions because I screwed up, but failing 14 times in a row because Danika got caught on a rock and was killed is just depressing.

It's definetely the weakest in the series, but there are a lot of enjoyable things about it. The new proffessions, hair styles/faces, skills, continent, etc are all fantastic.
